Reintroduction of cash payments on board

Queensland Rail has reintroduced cash for transactions on board its long-distance trains. Cash is a great option for customers when travelling in remote and mountainous Queensland landscapes, where connectivity for EFTPOS can be limited. With the COVID-19 alert level now green we are working to offer some flexibility in payment options for our customers, as they travel great distances with us all over Queensland.

Our Travel Centres and station ticket offices remain cashless, but both cash and card can be used on board.

This change to our cashless policy is being made for long distance services only, due to poor connectivity impacting the ability to take EFTPOS payments in remote areas along the network.

The Queensland Government’s current COVID-19 status is GREEN.

For the latest information visit the Queensland Health website at health.qld.gov.au.
